Cats and Dogs

  Beware of dogs. (Philippians 3:2)

Curiosity killed the cat. (traditional proverb)

This post is Part 2 of One Thing: Why I Hate/Love Men

I used to be mostly a cat person but the rest of my family are dog people. Except for Bob who likes NEITHER. He's like, "How did I end up with three dogs? I don't like dogs!"

Our family dog, "Bobby" is a girl but we named her after Bob to try to endear her to him. We got Bobby when she was a puppy in 2004.

Then Teddy got Layla, our "bad dog" in 2009. You can read about Layla in my blog post: The King of Hearts (scroll to the end)

Last Monday Layla chased my cat, Yoda up a tree and he was stuck up there for awhile. It took Ian, Laura, Sarah, Bob and I to get him down. Laura, my son Ian's girlfriend actually climbed the tree! But he was so scared she didn't try to grab him and I didn't want her to get scratched! Bob and Ian got a dead tree to make a ramp for him, that didn't work either! Sarah finally got him with a deer stand and handed him down to me.

At one time I had 13 cats! Now we are down to seven. Maybe six, since Yoda has left us! He's fed up with Layla! This year Sarah got her puppy, she named, "Jude". Jude also chases the cats and has actually caught up to them, but Jude just wants to play! Sometimes they don't even run from him and you know what? Then he doesn't chase them! But when they see Layla?....they "know".....just like Taylor Swift! ("I Knew You Were Trouble")...they head for the nearest tree!

My mom used to call my sister's dog, her "Grand-dog". So Layla (Teddy's dog) and Jude are my "Grand-dogs"!

Well enough about my "literal" cats and dogs, I was writing this to compare women and men to cats and dogs; I know this comparison does not originate with me!

I had said in my, "One Thing: Why I Love/Hate Men" post (link above) that; "Men are dogs" was said in someone's testimony. He said women should dress modestly because of this. He also said that when women walk in the room, men are rating them on a scale of 1-10. Unfortunately, this was confirmed to me last month by my father-in-law when we went to "The Boulevard" in Delray Beach on a Friday night. He said the men sit there and watch the ladies, some very scantily dressed walk by and they rate them on a scale of 1-10!!!!! And again, the more I hear about this ritual that men have, the more I like my cats!!!!  (L.M. Montgomery, "Chronicles of Avonlea")

But I see other ways that men are like my dogs and women are like my cats....

My dogs are are cats are clean....yet they leave their "scent" every where.....this home needs "a woman's touch" lol.....The dogs, especially Layla are always chasing the cats! Now Jude as I said just wants to play with them, but Layla? I'm convinced she wants to eat them! I started not liking dogs very much when I was attacked a few times! But I shouldn't hate all dogs because some are bad, right?

Dogs are stronger than cats but less self sufficient. When Laura's dad was over he was talking about their dog and cat, he said the cat is self sufficient (she could survive on her own) but the dog? Help-less! lol And many men are the same way! Why is it when the wife passes away first the men have to hurry up and find another wife! Can you wait, at least until the grave is cold, fellas? But I know several strong women who have been widows for years!!!! See, they're self sufficient!

It seems dogs are more "sexual" than cats, at least they don't care about privacy! We have a problem with Jude sometimes because he won't leave Layla alone. Sarah said, "Jude has puppy hormones....he's a teenager" lol Do cats even reproduce? Of course they do! That's how I ended up with 13 of them! I always get my cats fixed though---asap! Jude is fixed now also but it hasn't slowed him down much! Cats are aloof, at least they appear to be!

My sister and I went to New York with my parents one Summer vacation. I was 17 so my sis was 24. She dressed me up one day in her clothes and her make-up. I was out of the cult but I still didn't wear make-up much. Well, we heard a lot of "Cat calls"! One bag lady looked us up and down as we walked along with our parents----AWKWARD----so she says, "Pretty girls....models....get them out of New York!" My dad got annoyed after a while by all the cat calls and says exasperated, "Haven't they ever seen a woman before". Like, my daughters aren't that pretty what's their problem? Yeah, thanks dad! He could of said, "You know maybe you should dress down here...tone it down abit." I would of listened anyways, I found that when I put my own clothes back on and no make-up....I didn't get ogled as much! Did you ever see the movie "Grease"? Where Sandra Dee transforms into a sexy vixen for John Travolta? Yeah I went back to my original, Yeah "Sandra Dee" that's me! lol

I posted some pictures (on facebook) that Sarah recently put up on her wall, one was this one of Marilyn.

I said: Marilyn's on Sarah's wall twice now (She has Andy Warhol's also) It must have been tough to be her! Everyone you meet judges you before even giving you a chance! They don't get to know you---Men automatically like you---they don't know you and women automatically hate you and they don't know you either. No wonder she was so lonely!

Cats don't get along with their own kind! My dogs all get along pretty good. But not my cats! Ever heard the term, "Cat fight"?

Why do you hate me?

Once this Christian lady who is the same age as me said, "Susan's getting skinny. Don't you know women don't like skinny women?" Hmmmmm? Gee if I stay fat, will you be my friend?! I THOUGHT "Well, doesn't really matter since you already don't like me" It was another click that had formed of women who worked outside the home and I didn't so I already wasn't a part of their "group" and didn't want to be, so.....I left, like I said before a lady knows when it's time to leave. (From the movie, "Fried Green Tomatoes")

My Mom and my Aunt (who is my Mom's brother's wife) were/are both strong and beautiful women. But they were never really "friends" though. Why?! They never had a nice word to say about each other. I think it's sad that women are like this. And it shows our insecurities. We're on the same team! Can't we all just get along?

Women give sex to get love. Men give love to get sex. Haven't we heard this before? This gets us "stuck"!

Right now, as I write this, Layla has got my cat "Amigo" stuck up in a tree! I'm getting kinda worried because it's getting so windy! And he won't come down! In "Part 1" of "One Thing" I quoted Stacie Orrico,
I hate you but I love you
I can't stop thinkin' of you
It's true, I'm stuck on you....

What's the saying? "You can't live with them , you can't live without them" Right!? Sounds like you're "Stuck", doesn't it?

Judy Garlan ("The Wizard of Oz"), I was surprised to find out, died of a drug over-dose. I found out when I was researching for my Chains speech:

I think that when someone is empty inside, they seek many things to "fill" their void. These things can then become their "gods" .
I found some revealing quotes from Judy as I did from Marilyn. Words that reveal the deep ache in their hearts! I can only pray that they met Him Who can only fill us up - before they left this life! If they did they are truly "resting in peace" now! I'd like to think that they're "Home" now.

In the silence of night I have often wished for just a few words of love from one man, rather than the applause of thousands of people. Judy Garlan

If I'm such a legend, then why am I so lonely? Let me tell you, legends are all very well if you've got somebody around who loves you. Judy Garland

We cast away priceless time in dreams, born of imagination, fed upon illusion, and put to death by reality. Judy Garland

I recently read a book on sex addiction in women. I'm not going to say the title or author because I found it disturbing and I don't recommend it. I did learn some things from it, like I am NOT a sex addict! Much to my hubby's disappointment! haha I said, "These women cheat on their husbands, you don't want me to be that!" But the whole thing, I think is a misnomer. Women "might as well face it  we're addicted to love" as Robert Palmer used to sing in the 80s. And they're still writing songs about it today: Keisha's "Your love is my drug", The Black Eyed Peas "just can't get enough" , even Kelly Clarkson is "Addicted": "It's like I'm stuck, It's like I'm running from you all the time" Just like the cat running up the tree!

This book also talked about sexual abuse and made me realize, yes, I was a victim of that, just being in a friendship where someone else was being abused affected me. Thank God we moved to Florida when I was 12! I'm convinced I probably would be dead if we had stayed in California. I could not have handled all the guilt and shame had I actually had my purity stolen from me at such a young age! I would have over dosed on drugs or taken my own life! BiPolar disorder is a life threatening disease. I wish people would realize this! So you're a great Super Christian and talked someone into having enough "faith" to go off their antidepressants? Wow, great! Now when they take their life, their BLOOD IS ON YOUR HANDS!!!

This book (about sex addiction in women) actually recommended that women go to men's groups for Sex addicts!! The author said this because there are so few women's groups. But seriously?! Send the hens into the foxes den?? The cats into the Pit Bulls ring? I have one word for that: STUPID. This book was like you HAVE TO have a 90 day fast from sex---to me this is too legalistic and NOT Biblical. In I Corinthians 7 the apostle Paul says only for couples to "fast" from sex "with mutual consent" and "for a time", then to come back together "so Satan won't tempt you because of your lack of self-control". (verse 5) To me, this "sex addiction" is what men have and the women are just Codependent! Who thought up the idea of women being sex addicts, anyways?! Men!!!!! Do I still have a "bad attitude" towards men? Perhaps.....I also don't think any women should allow anyone to "label" them a "sex addict" and certainly don't stand up in a room full of men and women from who knows where? and "give testimony" that you are or even were one! It's just unwise! Stop it!!!! Suppose there is a serial rapist in church? It's great that we're a church that "accepts all" but it can have it's draw backs! Just sayin'! OK I'm being paranoid, perhaps...but seriously, they rape you and say, "She asked for it" ---Stranger things have happened believe me!

God knows more about us than we do! And you know what? It seems to me that Satan does also! It makes sense because he's way older than me, he's seen many a person like me live and die, he knows what makes us tick. He knows what will tempt us and what won't.....Now that is kinda scary, isn't it?

I will tell you, Satan has pulled a fast one on me on more than one occasion! Like I said in my blog post: Oh The Irony!. Just when I'm going along minding my own business......BAM!

I don't go out searching for men. I have my own and like I said before, he's an awesome hubby! And he's "tall, dark and handsome" also! But if men flirt with me, then I want to flirt back. "I wonder what he'll do if I run? Will he chase me?" Hmmmmm? I also wrote about this "problem" of mine in Cliff Hangers, Pot Stirrers and The Itsy Bitsy Spider

They say, "Curiosity killed the cat." And I say, it sure didn't help Eve either!!!!! Eve says to herself, "I wonder what will happen if I eat this fruit? I won't 'surely die', at least that's what that cute guy in the tree said....but why does he give me this creepy feeling? Where's Adam anyways? He's never around when I need him!"

There's these verses I turn to again and again. I wish I could say I always obey them. In II Corinthians 10:3-6 it says, " For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled."

What was this Eve was going through? Temptation! Your thoughts produce your actions and if you don't take those "wrong" thoughts "captive" as Paul said they are going to lead you into sin! The temptation, however, IS NOT sin! Even Jesus was tempted it says in the Bible, just like we are! (Hebrews 4:15) It says this in the book of James: "But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death." (James 1:14-15)

In I Corinthians 10:13 it says, "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

Can cats and dogs get along? Yes!

One time before he left for the University of Georgia Ian opened our bedroom door unannounced and said, "What are you doing?" Bob replied, "Praying" lol What were you thinking?!

I heard the "late great" D. James Kennedy preach on marriage once- I believe he said the best advice he had for married couples is that they pray together. I asked Bob if we could start this when I went back to homeschooling (Claire who was in 7th gr and Lydia who was in 3rd) with GA Cyber Academy in the  2009-2010 school year- because I wanted to get through a day without making either of them cry! But it has proved to be a great habit! Yesterday I was thinking of how sweet it is of Bob to thank God for his "godly wife" about every day- And how that helps me (and humbles me) as I ask God to assist me in living up to that! And Lydia and Claire went back to public school which also helps me be more godly, well most of the time!

You know that Bob gets up at like 5:00 am!? If I'm up I get on my knees beside the bed, if I'm awake I pray first, then Bob finishes. Sometimes I'm not even really, "Awake" When I noticed he thanked God for his "godly wife" and he also prays our children will find godly spouses....I said to myself, "Wait, how long has he been praying this? Did I thank God for him?" My bad! Now I try to remember to be thankful  everyday for all the ways God blesses me! My hubby and my kids are the best!

I heard from Lydia and her friend Brooke that the books about "A Dogs Purpose" are a good read. They're by W. Bruce Cameron.

One thing men are supposed to do is "protect" women. My dogs really do make me feel safe (especially Layla) from anyone who would be dumb enough to intrude into our home! When men are looking at women, ogling them and rating them on a scale from 1-10 that's exploiting them NOT protecting/cherishing them!

On the other hand when my hubby is praying for me and thanking God for his "godly wife" that sure makes me feel loved/respected/ protected and cherished!

This was my birthday card from my sis! Loved it! Inside it said; "It's your birthday. Don't let anyone mess with you." And I DON'T -at least NOT ANYMORE! And neither does my hubby!

This post is getting so long! And there's this book I wanted to quote (You'll understand when you read the title) but I didn't realize it would be this quote on prayer. It is an excellent book!:

"One more thing: I believe a parent should pray for his children and let them know that he does. Prayer of this kind, I'm convinced, forms a kind of invisible envelope of love that surrounds them wherever they go, and if they are at all sensitive they will feel it's comforting presence."
Norman Vincent Peale, "Sin, Sex and Self-Control: A practical, common-sense, inspiring challenge to the individual"

I love all music and I listen mostly to Contemporary Christian/Praise music and God literally sustains me with it: See: Praise The Name of Jesus

But I listen to popular music to learn to relate to young people (Like my kids), so that's what's up with me listening to Katy Perry and Pink.
When I first listened to Katy ("I Kissed a Girl", "Last Friday Night") I DID NOT like her, at all! She has some very explicit lyrics that ten year old girls are going around singing! *Gasp* At least perhaps they don't understand what they are singing, let's hope so, anyways! I was interested  (surprised even) to watch,  Katy's video to the song, "Wide Awake" and found that the message it was giving was a very POSITIVE one! Let's wake up girls! There is no Prince Charming! (She punches him out in the video!) I.E. There is no perfect man for you, who'll meet all your needs and be your "Dream come true"! And Katy's mascot is a cat named, "Kitty Purry". Katy's dad is a Pastor and Katy used to sing Christian music! So hopefully, one day this stray lamb will return to the fold!
Here are some of the lyrics I especially like from the song,

I'm wide awake
Not losing any sleep
I picked up every piece
And landed on my feet (Like a cat! lol)
I'm wide awake
Need nothing to complete myself, no

I'm wide awake
I am born again
Out of the lion's den
I don't have to pretend
And it's too late
The story's over now, the end

“Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”  Ephesians 5:14

"Awake and sing, you who dwell in dust..." Isaiah 26:19

And along the same lines I watched the video to the "Pink"'s song "F****** Perfect" and how I wish she left that first word out! You can watch/listen to the edited version, which I prefer. But the song and video have such a powerful message to women today! The video would probably get a PG-13 or even R rating but it speaks to so many issues for young women! (Sex, cutting, addiction, eating disorders, suicide) To me, it even sends a positive message about motherhood. Even if your upbringing was less than "perfect" you can change, starting with your kids---break what I call the "cycle of dysfunction"! I had tears running down my face by the end of this video! And, call me crazy--I don't care! I would recommend it to teenagers and adults.

Some lyrics from Pink's song, "Perfect"

Made a wrong turn once or twice
Dug my way out, blood and fire
Bad decisions, that's alright
Welcome to my silly life

Mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood
Miss 'No way, it's all good'
It didn't slow me down.
Mistaken, always second guessing
Underestimated, look I'm still around

Pretty, pretty please, don't you ever, ever feel
Like you're less than perfect
Pretty, pretty please, if you ever, ever feel
Like you're nothing, you're perfect to me

You're so mean when you talk
About yourself. You were wrong.
Change the voices in your head
Make them like you instead.

So complicated,
Look happy, You'll make it!
Filled with so much hatred
Such a tired game

It's enough, I've done all I could think of
Chased down all my demons
I've seen you do the same

SPOILER WARNING! If you don't want me to spoil the end of the video, watch it BEFORE you read this!

In the end of the video the young woman gets up out of the bed, goes into her little girls room and mouths these words to her little daughter asleep in the bed!

 "you are perfect to me."

I'm done trying to figure out if something good that was said was about me or not? Was it heart-felt? Or a joke? As I said before; It doesn't really matter! It won't change who I am or how I'll act. But you know what? I pray that is who I am! You "get me", I'll give you that  and my God is amazing and He answers prayer! He makes my way perfect. (Psalm 18:32) He washes me and makes me "whiter than snow" (Psalm 51:7) and he exchanges all my "badness" for his righteousness! (Romans 4:5) He is merciful and kind!

Teach me your ways, O Lord,
that I may live according to your truth!
Grant me purity of heart,
so that I may honor you.
With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God.
I will give glory to your name forever,
for your love for me is very great.
You have rescued me from the depths of death. Psalm 86:11-13

Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land…. Isaiah 1:18-19

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51: 7-11

Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. Matthew 5:8

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,  through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we  boast in the hope of the glory of God.  Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;  perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. Romans 5:1-5

"Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back"

Jesus is my King! He shows me His love for me every day. He whispers to my heart, "I love you, Susan, don't worry about them, pray for them, they're hurting too!"

Judy Garlan also said,
For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed but my soul.

Wide Awake
Somehow, somewhere could there be
Someone who'll love me for me?
I fell asleep and dreamed a dream
Of a fair prince upon a horse,
Who sought a princess rare and true,
For her purity sparkled through,
Like the jewels in her princess crown,
But alas I awoke- and looked down
To see my chains which did choke,
My life was ebbing away...
Then one day I realized,
My longing heart can't be filled by mortal man,
Only the Amazing King of the Universe can,
He breaks my chains and soothes my heart's deep ache!
And I find I'm wide awake!
Quit your search!
Call off the hunt!
Even King Solomon found that
All earth's riches couldn't satisfy,
Til that Day he found in God his rich and full supply!
At last I've found the only One,
Who will love me for me!
Won't you come to Him?
And "taste and see"?
For He is good as Katy used to say,
There's no need to pretend!
The story's over now- the end!
And they lived joyfully ever after!

The Woman You gave me....
You tell us to dress modestly?
Yet my man looks at pornography?
Get  a job!
No, stay at home!
You're damned either way!
Fry the bacon up in a pan,
Make you feel like a man,
It's his world you know?
Have your babies naturally,
Nurse them, it's more healthy, see?
Never say, "What about me?"
Live your life selflessly-
Barefoot, pregnant,
And when you're not you should be rail thin,
So you only cook for him,
Shut the door, come right back in,
Car pool, help out everyone, volunteer, yeah it's so fun!
Yet you're always on the run,
Tired, exhausted, disillusioned,
A desperate plea, "Lord help!"
"ENOUGH!" He says, "Peace be still!"
Who are you living for? Them or Me?
Do you want to be made free?
Guard your heart, it belongs to Me!
You give respect, now demand it back,
Don't dwell on all the things you lack,
You are perfect to me!
Teach your kids, your husband too,
One person can't do it all for you,
To be healthy and sane you must have boundaries,
God's yoke is easy and light!
It's not restrictive and tight!
He leads you on the path that's right,
